American retired professional basketball player who played 20 seasons in the NBA for the Milwaukee Bucks and Los Angeles Lakers, Kareem Abdul Jabbar’s ex-girlfriend is Cherly Pistono. Abdul was a record six-time NBA MVP, a record 19-time NBA All-Star, a 15-time All-NBA selection, and an 11-time NBA All-Defensive Team member. Well, he was one of the greatest players of all time. He was honored as one of the 50 Greatest Players in NBA History in the year 1996.
The relationship between Kareem and Cheryl was very complex and it lasted only for some time. But whatever time they spent with each other, it was good. When they first met, Jabbar knew that Cheryl was a smart lady. They moved together in 1979 and the following November 1980 Amir, their first son was born. From what we know Cheryl is a funny and a smart lady who the heart of Kareem. Cheryl grew up in a working class family which she left at the age of sixteen. At that time she went to live with her relatives on the Coast. She spent time hanging out at Hugh Hefner’s, spent weekend in Vegas, and did everything which made her feel alive. She finally settled on Buddhism after some time.
After meeting with Abdul-Jabbar, when she brought him home to meet her family, there was both excitement and disappointment. Although her father was a big fan of Basketball and kinda loved Kareem, he refused to come and meet him because of racial differences.
As far as the story from Jabbar’s end is concerned he says that that Cheryl has had a greater impact on his adult life than any of his teachers, coaches, owners, friends or teammates. It was Cheryl who convinced him to seek a divorce from his wife Habiba. He married Habiba in 1971, but never lived with her since 1972. Cheryl and Kareem have always had religious differences between them though. She said that whenever any of his friends used to visit home, he took out all the paintings and photographs of human figures, as he was a stout follower of Islam.
Cheryl was a kind of person who never feared from speaking her mind to Jabbar. She says that everyone only got praises for him, she always told him the truth. She introduced him to roller skating and he sure looked happy while on blades. His fans loved seeing a man of such size doing disco moves on the the wheels. He was never really a people pleaser though. Someone even told Cheryl that how can someone be such a great player on the court and kind of ass off it.
Cheryl and Kareem had no plans to marry from the starting. Jabbar said because of their religion difference, he was not allowed to marry Cheryl. He believed though that as long as he supports Cheryl and her family, there shouldn’t be any problem.
These two might have been separated now, but they sure have their son Amir, who will always remind them of the sweet moments they spent together.
